We had a great club meeting on Tuesday with two powerful speakers reminding us of how important it is to take care of our own and others mental health. Thanks to Rob Phipps, our PE, for putting together this program with a video from incoming RI president Gordan McInally and speaker Amanda Merriman from the Building Hope Suicide Prevention team. Remember to always ask yourself, your family, and your friends what could be the most important question you ever ask: How are you doing.....really?

WoodyWoodland shared a wonderful Rotary article with me that was recently published in the Vail Daily News. See this link for a short candid essay by John Clayton about his experience with Rotarians: 'Some People Just Like to Get Things Done'. John writes about how rural communities, usually populated by active Rotarians and other service organizations, put aside their differences and join together for the greater common good, focusing on helping other people help themselves. I like to think that the Summit County Rotary club would qualify as such a rural community where we join together Making Good Things Happen in our community, our world and ourselves.
On Tuesday our Youth Exchange chair, Kim Nearpass-Pollack, put out the annual call for host families for our 2023-24 incoming YE students. This is the most time consuming part of Kim's job....finding 6 host families in our community. That's a lot of host families!! She needs our help in getting the word out in Summit County. If you or someone you know would be interested in hosting a Rotary YE student for 3 months, please contact Kim. See below for more information from Kim about this great opportunity.

The Rotary Club of Summit County is seeking host families for the 2023-24 academic year.
Our club will be sponsoring two outbound Summit High School students, going to spend one of the best years of their lives in Sweden and Finland. In turn, we will host two foreign students who will live in our wonderful community and attend SHS next year.
Each student will stay with three different Summit County families, so each host family has a student live with them for three months. It is a fun, educational, eye-opening way to bring the world together and make international connections.

I seek to be part of an organization known for ethical leadership and involved in a wide range of community services. I have chosen both of my careers because of my interest in creating positive change. Community journalism allowed me to further my passion to inform people so that they could make educated decisions. Teaching allowed me to further my passion to give young people a voice and a set of analytical skills so they can become impactful members of the community. I choose my volunteer pursuits for similar reasons. Community is the common denominator. In Rotary, I see many opportunities to work with a group of likeminded people to make positive changes in our community.
I grew up in St. Louis Missouri attending local schools from K-12. My primary family includes my parents and my younger brother. I attended college at Miami University of Ohio in Oxford, Ohio and attained a bachelor's degree in Journalism in 1988. I was hired by the Gannett company of community newspapers and worked for the company for 12 years in editing roles for newspapers in Visalia, California; Boise, Idaho; Nyack, New York; and White Plains, New York. I married Jeff Cooper and we raised two children. I obtained a master's degree in education from Boise State University in Idaho in 2000 and have been teaching literature and composition to students in grades 6 through 12 through this year. I began my teaching career at at Bishop Kelly High School in Boise, Idaho, and then our family moved to Eagle County, Colorado in 2004. Since then, I have been teaching at The Vail Academy K-8 school in Avon, Colorado and Vail Christian High School in Edwards, Co. My husband and I moved to Silverthorne in May, 2021 in order to be closer to my parents in Denver.

Calling all volunteers to help at the May 2nd Tuesday Night Free Community Dinner at The Elks Club in Silverthorne (4:45 - 7:00). It's a lot of fun and you will feel great having helped so many community members enjoy a delicious meal and spend time with others. We need 8-10 volunteers.

The Rotary Book Club is currently reading "The Song of the Cell - An Exploration of Medicine and the New Human," by Siddhartha Mukherjee. We will meet in April, at a time to be announced, to discuss.

Club Service Committee Chairperson: involves activities that affect the smooth operation of our Rotary club. The Club Service Committee Chair oversees a number of committees that are responsible for our club bulletin, social committee, club bylaws and inventory of club flags. As the Committee Chair, you will participate in our club's monthly board meetings, communicate with your committee members and collaborate with other club members as needed.
Marketing Committee Chair Position
The duties are wide open to create and execute those things which promote our club motto of "making good things happen, in our community, in the world and in ourselves." You will work closely and coordinate with the club president regarding your creative ideas. You will work with our community assets like Krystal93, Summit Daily News, Rotary Social Media, Rotary Website, and other media as appropriate. You will also work directly with the Rotary Sponsor person to learn and further develop the Corporate Sponsors program.

Email spam filters often include the ability to "whitelist" certain sender IP addresses, email addresses or domain names to protect their email from being rejected or sent to a junk mail folder.

Also called a "safe senders list," only messages from addresses on the list are allowed, and all the rest are discarded. (2) A list of valid domain names that a mail server is configured to accept. All mail from users with that domain are allowed.
Gmail:
According to internet: Gmail offers an option to add specific addresses or domains as "safe" so they aren't automatically marked as spam, known as a "Whitelist." Your Whitelists must be managed and set by you. If you want to accept all email sent from a specific address, follow these instructions:
Log in to your Gmail
Click the gear icon in the top-right, and select Settings.
Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab.
Click Create at New Filter.

The Membership Committee needs new Rotary members (especially people who have joined Rotary in the last 2 - 3 years) to join the Committee to help us meet our challenges in attracting and retaining new members. The Committee meets as needed to discuss approaches in how we can add, and involve, new members. We need to recruit new folks to keep our club vibrant and involved in the community!
A Prospective Member should attend 3 meetings before turning in his/her application, sponsor form, a short bio and $50 application fee to the Membership Chairman, David Guignard, or to any one on the Membership Committee. The application will be presented to the Membership Committee for approval. Once approved, the applicant's bio will be posted in our bulletin for 3 weeks. If there are no questions about the Prospective Member, the induction will be scheduled. Two categories of Membership are available – a Family Membership and a Corporate Membership. Please contact an individual on the Membership Committee for details on these new types of Membership.
