Good morning Summit Rotarians!

Today is Veteran's Day, the day when we should pause to thank, honor, and celebrate all veterans who served honorably in the military, in wartime and peacetime.  A number of our club members are veterans, whom we will honor in person at our meeting next Tuesday.

In Canada, as well as the UK, everyone wears a red poppy on their label to honor veterans on this special day.  This bright red flower is recognized worldwide as a symbol of sacrifice made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms.  Please thank a veteran today for their service.

November is an important month for our club as we will hold our Annual Meeting on Tuesday November 29th to vote on the 2023-24 Summit Rotary Club slate of board directors and members.  This will be the club board that will serve under Rob Phipps during the 2023-24 Rotary year.  We have had a few board members step down while several newer members have volunteered to serve on the club board.  One service committee chair remains open: Club Service/Newsletter.  Cindy Levin has done an awesome job in this position over the past several years!  She is more than willing to help train/mentor the next member to take over this important service committee position.

I am very excited to announce that the past president's committee has nominated Wendy Myers for the position of President-elect Nominee (PEN) for 2024-25, and she has accepted!

Our club bylaws require members to be notified of the proposed slate at least 2 weeks prior to the club's Annual Meeting, at which time the membership will vote on the candidates.  Now is the time for members to chat with the proposed board and PEN to learn how they will represent our club in the coming Rotary year.  Many thanks to PE Rob Phipps for putting together a great slate of candidates for his 2023-24 term!

Join Our Plastic Recycling Team!

The plastic team cleaned another 50+ pounds of plastic film for recycling!

Rob has provided us with an opportunity to recycle plastic "clamshells." Clean clamshells with the label cut out can be used in Breck Create's new plastic recycling machine. Please start saving your clamshells! More details from Rob at the next Rotary meeting!

Also, if you have any connection with any business that may be willing to save their plastic film for us, please let Marcy know! Use sign up genius to help on any day that works for you:   https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F48A4AA2BA0FFCE9-summit1.

Use Amazon Smile to Benefit the Summit County Rotary Charitable Fund
We're pleased to announce that we have been able to add the Summit County Rotary Charitable Fund to Amazon.

What this means...by following this link (https://smile.amazon.com/ch/84-1215233), and selecting the Summit County Rotary Charitable Fund as your Charity, Amazon will donate a percentage of every one of your purchases to us! This is a very easy way to get additional funds for our projects. If all of our members select this option, we imagine there will be a nice little contribution to help our club!

Instead of going to amazon.com when you make purchases, go to smile.amazon.com and you'll see us listed there!
If you have any questions please email Lynne Baer at lynnebaer520@gmail.com.
Share with your friends/family - so easy!

Prevent ClubRunner Emails from getting "Junked"

To ensure that the club newsletter and other Clubrunner emails are successfully delivered to your email inbox, add the following email address and domain name to your email's contact list/safe senders/whitelist:

  1. mailservice@clubrunner.ca
  2. @clubrunner.email

What is a whitelist and why is this needed?

Email spam filters often include the ability to "whitelist" certain sender IP addresses, email addresses or domain names to protect their email from being rejected or sent to a junk mail folder.

From Wickipedia:  A whitelist is (1) a list of email addresses that a mail server or email client program is configured to accept as valid, incoming mail. Also called a "safe senders list," only messages from addresses on the list are allowed, and all the rest are discarded.   (2) A list of valid domain names that a mail server is configured to accept. All mail from users with that domain are allowed.

Gmail:

According to internet:  Gmail offers an option to add specific addresses or domains as "safe" so they aren't automatically marked as spam, known as a "Whitelist." Your Whitelists must be managed and set by you. If you want to accept all email sent from a specific address, follow these instructions:

  1. Log in to your Gmail
  2. Click the gear icon in the top-right, and select Settings.
  3. Click the Filters and Blocked Addresses tab.
  4. Click Create at New Filter.
  5. In the pop-up window, in the From field enter the clubrunner email addresses listed above separated by OR. example mailservice@clubrunner.ca OR @clubrunner.email
  6. Click Create filter.
  7. Check "Never send it to Spam".
  8. Click Create filter

Membership Update
The Membership Committee needs new Rotary members (especially people who have joined Rotary in the last 2 - 3 years) to join the Committee to help us meet our challenges in attracting and retaining new members.  The Committee meets as needed to discuss approaches in how we can add, and involve, new members. The Summit Rotary Club is now below 100 members, and we need to recruit new folks to keep our club vibrant and involved in the community!

A Prospective Member should attend 3 zoom meetings before turning in his/her application, sponsor form, a short bio and $50 application fee to the Membership Chairman, Mike Connolly, or to any one on the Membership Committee.  The application will be presented to the Membership Committee for approval.  Once approved, the applicant's bio will be posted in our bulletin for 3 weeks.  If there are no questions about the Prospective Member, the induction will be scheduled. Two new categories of Membership have recently been approved – a Family Membership and a Corporate Membership.  Please contact an individual on the Membership Committee for details on these new types of Membership.

Membership Committee Members are: Chairman - David Guignard, Julianne Gilchrist, Sandy Mortensen, Ann Clement, Susan Juergensmeier, Stephanie Katz, David "Woody" Woodland.
